Undefeated Husson Hangs on for 86-78 Win Over Johnson

The Husson men's basketball team hung on for an 86-78 road win over Johnson State, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Friday evening. The Eagles improve to 14-1 overall and  remain undefeated in the conference play after eight games. Johnson State slips to to 3-11 overall and 1-8 in the NAC.

Junior Ron Adrian led the Badgers' in scoring bucketing a team-high 19 points while sophomore teammate Asim Khan went 6-8 contributing 16 points and one steal. Senior captain Bryan Hickey delivered 10 points for the Badgers but most impressively pulled down 13 off the glass.

Trevon Butler led the Eagles with a double-double scoring a game-high 22 points and grabbing 13 off the glass while center Dan Fleming chipped in 16 points towards the Eagles' win.

In the opening stanza, Johnson played tight ball going 13-26 to the visitor's 16-33 giving them a slight shot percentage advantage. Despit that edge, play remained close with the lead changing six time before the teams headed into the locker rooms. At the half, Husson led Johnson 45-40.  

Husson used a 5-0 run in the first three minutes of the second half to further its lead to 50-40. Johnson worked to close the 10-point gap and a crucial three pointer from senior Josh Reed followed by a jumper from Greg Davis brought the hosts within two points of the visiting team. With six minutes to go, the teams had tied things up 66-66 much to the pleasure of an energetic home crowd. The teams were tied up 74-74 once more with just 2:30 to play in the game, but Husson used a 12-4 run to secure the 86-78 win in the final minute of the game. 

Johnson State shot 47.3% (26-55) for the game to Husson's 40.6% (26-64)

Johnson will host Maine Maritime tomorrow for a NAC face-off at 1:00p this Saturday while Husson continues its Vermont road trip at Lyndon for a 1:00p tip.
