Badgers End Up On Top in Overtime Thriller

In North Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon, the Lyndon State College men's basketball team let victory slip away as Johnson State College forced overtime before taking the game in overtime, 101-98.

The Hornets held the lead for 28 minutes before Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Penn.) knocked in a three-pointer from the corner with 0.8 seconds left to send the in-state showdown to overtime at 90-90. 

Shaun Hill struck first in overtime for the Hornets but the visitors would answer and produce a 99-94 lead with 2:13 to play.  The Badgers would hang on, leaving Lyndon with the victory.

The first 11 minutes saw the lead change multiple times before the Hornets went on an 18-4 run to take their biggest lead of the night at 44-30 with 2:39 to play in the first half.  The Badgers brought the lead back down into single digits before the end of the half, down 46-38.

The second half showcased both teams' abilities to score the ball as they combined for 96 points over the 20 minutes.  The Badgers would find themselves within striking range multiple times with less than 10 minutes to play until finally catching the Hornets with Holl's three at the end of regulation.

Hill led all scorers for Lyndon with 41 points while grabbing seven boards and four steals.  Howard Lyles recorded a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds while Raymond Monroe chipped in 10 points.

Rahim Bunch registered 30 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists to lead the Badgers.  Asim Khan added 23 points with 21 coming in the second half and overtime.  Holl finished with 16 points while Rasul Jackson chipped in 17.

Lyndon (6-9, 4-6 NAC) hosts Middlebury College Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Johnson tips off Friday at home against Thomas College at 7:30 p.m.
