Johnson Falls to Chargers 92-83

The Johnson State men's basketball team fell 92-83 to visiting Colby-Sawyer College in an exciting North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tilt, Wednesday evening in Carter Gym. With the win, the Chargers advance to 14-6 on the season and 10-4 in the NAC while the Badgers slide to 8-14 on the year and 8-7 in the conference.

Colby-Sawyer senior Peter Donato led all players with a game high 38 points and grabbed another game high 12 rebounds for the team's only double-double. Wol Majong and Milani Hicks recorded 18 and 15 points respectively while sophomore guard Taylor Grande pulled down nine boards on the night.

Johnson State was led by an impressive shooting performance from senior Rahim Bunch. He finished 10-of-19 for a team high of 23 points. Senior guard Asim Khan contributed 18 points while sophomore Demetrius Slade grabbed 10 rebounds for the Badgers in the losing effort.

Khan opened the game with a layup, but Colby-Sawyer would go in front 20-9 13 minutes into the half. The Badgers caught fire in the middle of the opening stanza, going on an 8-13 run to bring the game within one point at 30-29.  Two Bunch lay-ups and a jumper from sophomore Rasul Jackson put the Badgers up by five, which would prove to be their largest lead of the game. The Badgers quickly lost their lead as the Chargers picked-up momentum and ended the half ahead 48-40.

Colby-Sawyer came back after the break ready to win. The Chargers went up by as many as 15 with eight minutes left to play. The Badgers battled back to close the gap to six twice, but were unable to overcome the Chargers offense. The Chargers ended the game with a pair of free throws from the charity stripe to seal their 92-83 win.

Johnson will host Lyndon on Saturday for a 3:00pm game while the Chargers will host Me.-Farmington for a 3:00pm tip as well.
