Strong Second Half by SUNY Canton Tops NVU-Johnson 65-40

JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's basketball team dropped their second conference game in a row on Saturday afternoon to SUNY Canton by a score of 65-40.

The Badgers were led by Kiyl Mack who contributed 12 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Tyhee Taylor recorded nine points on 4-6 shooting and added three boards. 

It was SUNY Canton that took charge in the first stint of action going on the first run of the game. The Kangaroos led 7-3 in the opening minutes of play but back to back buckets from Taylor gave the Badgers their first lead of the game. Canton followed with a run of their own and took a demanding 26-15 lead off strong performances from George Nehma and Quran DuBois. Dubois finished the contest with 17 points and Nehma contributed 15 points for the game. The Kangaroos held the Badgers scoreless in the final minutes of the half and headed into the break leading 30-22. 

The Badgers were held to 18 points in the second half while the Kangaroos capitalized scoring 35 points to improve to 13-8 overall and 9-1 in North Atlantic Conference play. With the loss the Badgers move to 4-16 overall and 2-6 in NAC play. 

SUNY Canton held the Badgers to just 30.2% from the field and won the rebounding battle 34-28.

The Badgers will host Maine Maritime on Friday, February 7 at 7:30pm.
