View Scores Season-High 30 as Badgers Slip against Roos

CANTON, NY – The Vermont State University Johnson Badgers jumped right out the gate in Saturday's matchup, taking a commanding 10-0 lead against the SUNY Canton Roos. In the opening minutes, Maleek View contributed six points from three jumpers, alongside teammates Gerald Pitt Jr. and Travis Baker's two apiece. Following their rocky start, the Roos settled in with a layup just over two minutes into the half and began matching the Badgers with each play. With 11:46 remaining in the opening half, the Badgers maintained an 11 point lead, before the Roos went on an 10-2 run to come within three points, at 23-20, which would be the closest they would come within the opening frame. Johnson extended their lead to seven by halftime, sitting at 35-28. To that point, View led the court with 23 points and 7 rebounds, dominating the court as the whistle blew.

The Badgers returned to the court strong, increasing their lead to 12 points (55-43) with 9:27 left on the clock. The second half saw wider range from Johnson, with five Badgers contributing the frame's score, led by Mohammed Semega's eight, closely followed by View's seven, and David Greer's and Pitt's six apiece. Johnson continued to work together, but saw their lead gradually fade as Canton's 15-0 run found Johnson in a three-point hole, their first of the game, with 5:44 left in the game. The Badgers kept Canton in sight for the remainder of the game, coming within two points with 56 seconds left on the clock, but could not equal the score before the buzzer, falling 72-67.

Notes: View scored a season-high 30 points, 1 shy of a career high. View and Semega posted double doubles (View: 30 points, 12 rebounds, Semega: 10 points, 11 rebounds).

Men's Basketball returns home for their final game of the season, February 13, as the Badgers host VTSU Lyndon. Gametime is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
